Amboy seen from the east.
Picture of Amboy as seen driving west. Route 66 runs straight into Amboy in the distance. Even further, beyond the railroad, is the Amboy crater.

The shoe tree in the foreground is growing next to Route 66 and provides some extremely rare shadow in the desert. A bit further on the right is Roy's.

Picture of Roy's as seen from the east. In the heyday of Route 66 this would have been a chance to get gas and stop for a refreshment, or even a night sleep in one of the cabins.

Amboy Shoe Tree
The shoe tree grows on the south side of Route 66. Tourists throw used shoes in the tree to leave a not so permanent mark.

The tree hides the crater in the distance. and grows next to a construction best described as a dry channel.

Amboy School
Roy's
Roy's Motel and Cafe. The office was in the building with the glass front. The glass was shaded by the huge roof. The cabins made up the motel.

The Canopy of the gas station serves shadow, but no more fuel Your next stops for fuel are either in Ludlow or Needles.

The shadow being used by a group of friendly bikers. Something again possible since Roy's changed owners.

Post Office
Amboy's Post Office looks very alive and well maintained compared to most of the rest of the town.

Train reaching for the horizon. It's heading towards Barstow from the south of the railroad crossing.

Crater
Unless you're up to a 3 hour walk climbing a volcano, this is the closest you'll get to the Amboy Crater. It's a bad idea to walk there in summer, especially. when not carrying lots of water.
